Why should you have an online store?

July 14th, 2010

Selling products and services online can have major advantages for businesses, leading to increased profitability and lower costs.

Selling online has a number of advantages over selling by conventional methods, including:

  • Making savings in set-up and operational costs. You don’t need to pay shop assistants, rent high-street premises, or answer a lot of pre-sales queries.
  • Reducing order-processing costs – customer orders can automatically come straight into your orders database from the website.
  • Competing with larger businesses by being able to open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Being able to receive payment more quickly from online transactions.
  • Attracting customers who would not normally have investigated your type of high-street outlet.
  • Improving your offerings using the data gathered by tracking customer purchases.
  • Using your online shop as a catalog for existing customers.
  • Global marketplace – Your web site can be accessed from anywhere in the world, which now means you could sell to anyone ANYWHERE.
  • No middleman – By selling directly to the customers you can now cutout the middleman.
  • 24 Hour business – If your web site can process payment information you can now be open 24 hours a day!
  • Increased customer information – Instead of posting your latest brochure or clients account statement, why not allow them to access it via your web site?

The Internet can open up new avenues for your business to buy and sell products or services online, with such activities generically referred to as ecommerce.

Content management system

July 14th, 2010

A content management system (CMS) is a software used to create, edit, manage, and publish content in a consistently organized fashion.

CMSs are frequently used for storing, controlling, versioning, and publishing industry-specific documentation such as news articles, operators’ manuals, technical manuals, sales guides, and marketing brochures. The content managed may include computer files, image media, audio files, video files, electronic documents, and Web content.

A CMS may support the following features:

  • identification of all key users and their content management roles;
  • the ability to assign roles and responsibilities to different content categories or types;
  • definition of workflow tasks for collaborative creation, often coupled with event messaging so that content managers are alerted to changes in content (For example, a content creator submits a story, which is published only after the copy editor revises it and the editor-in-chief approves it.);
  • the ability to track and manage multiple versions of a single instance of content;
  • the ability to publish the content to a repository to support access to the content (Increasingly, the repository is an inherent part of the system, and incorporates enterprise search and retrieval.);
  • separation of content’s semantic layer from its layout (For example, the CMS may automatically set the color, fonts, or emphasis of text.).

Custom website design VS template-based website design

July 14th, 2010
Custom website design is created by a web artist based on the customer guidelines, such as color and layout, amount of text on the page, the kinds of images, and more. Our team usually obtains these guidelines from the client and then creates two different demos based on them. The client then chooses one of them, making changes and adjustments as needed.  The client can always decide to use different elements from both designs to create a unique mix.

Template website design, on the other hand, is based on an already created template. The template can either be obtained free or purchased online from template vendors.  If you don’t like the colors or the layout, our team will work with you to find the perfect look.
Advantages and Disadvantages:
Custom website design is time-consuming. It takes time to come up with the right design and to find just the right look.  However, you will know for sure that no one else has a website that looks like yours.
Custom website design cost a lot more compared to the template-based web site design.  However, if done right, custom website design is very flexible and easy to modify so that you can add many different features.  That is not so easy to do with a template.
To create a quality custom website design, you will need to find a professional and experienced web design company that will be able to build a light, easy-to-understand CSS. That is because you will most likely want to make changes and additions to your website, so the design needs to be flexible.  While customers see only the front-end of the website, the developers see the back-end and it’s important that the design is clean and flexible. Many people can build a website, but very few can build it well. Our team uses only div tags instead of tables to make sure that the design is friendly and easy to modify.

Now you will ask, “What should I use?”  Well, just like we discussed above, both solutions have their pluses and minuses, and you need to consider your needs to decide what is best for you. If you need a nice, simple website that shows your services and what you do, but at the same time you have a small budget, go with a template-based web site design. If you want to have a great looking and unique website with many features, go with custom design. In any case, never be without web presence, because nowadays it is very important and more valuable than you can imagine. It will bring you many potential clients and people will see your business as far more professional, well-organized, and secure.
