Here are the instructions on how to remove footer links:

The footer links are created from two sources: static block and xml files in layout folder in Magento.
1. First go to admin back end->CMS->Statick Blocks. Here you will find static block called Footer links. Click Edit. You will have option to add/change the links or to remove it from the design you can disable the static block.

2. Second line of footer links is little bit more complicated. To remove it you need to have the FTP access to the website.
Go to app->layout folder and open files:
sales.xml
rss.xml
page.xml
catalogsearch.xml
cms.xml
customer.xml
catalog.xml
In every file find the code like this:

• After you add the name of the menu, it will appear at the bottom of the page. Click on the menu name.
